Robbie Dowton and Corey Stanley both scored a hat-trick of tries to put the finishing touches to a brilliant display by the Wellington Cowboys backs when they smashed Nyngan Tigers 72-22 at Kennard Park yesterday.
Wellington scored 13 tries in all with half Richard Peckham and Damien Kelly each bagging doubles and Dowton and Stanley each appreciating the wealth of ball that came from the halves behind a solid forward pack.
Sadly Nyngan were out of their depth with the club riddled by a number of injuries already this season, nothing could be taken away from four tries yesterday.
The visitors certainly put plenty into their reserve grade match although the Cowboys got up 36-34 with centre Scott Cubby leading the way with three tries and Clinton Ridley kicking six goals.
Lock Richie Deebank was one of Nyngan’s best with two tries.
The day started off well for Wellington when their talented under-18s side continued on its winning run demolishing Nyngan 50-4. Corey Stanley’s day could not have been any better.
He crossed for three tries playing at five-eighth – and added to his day’s workload with three more and the six goals in first grade.
Hayden Crean also had a top game for under-18s scoring three tries while Norman West kicked seven goals.
Lock Kenny Everson was also strong with two tries.
