At last Dubbo will catch up with many other cities throughout Australia with the beginning of kerbside recycling collection today.
The long wait in Dubbo is evident by a comment from Dubbo resident Cy Caton who said in May she had been waiting for the service for some time after seeing the recycling service her family in Sydney had.
In March Dubbo City Council’s manager of civil infrastructure and solid waste Steve Clayton said the program had taken some time to be developed in Dubbo.
“It was only a matter of time before one was started,” he said.
“It just took time for it to be organised.”
The kerbside collection will make it easier for Dubbo residents to be more environmentally inclined.
The recycling centres across Dubbo have provided a place for those keen enough to take their bottles and newspapers, but now recycling can became second
nature with a short walk to the wheelie bin.
The key now is for Dubbo residents to make sure they
only recycle what can be recycled.
Only paper, cardboard, glass bottles and jars, aluminium and steel cans and rigid plastic containers can be placed in the yellow-lidded bins.
Any other rubbish placed in the bins would have the potential to contaminate the entire collection.
Of course this won’t be a problem for Dubbo residents many of whom have been waiting for this service for a long time.
